1st Poster, Trailer & Screening Brings the Untold Himalayan Story to the Global Stage
Inspired by true events, the film reflects the deep spiritual bond of villagers with Mahasu Maharaj and nature
In a proud and emotional moment for Indian regional cinema, the first poster, trailer, and market screening of Khoonta were officially launched at the world-renowned . The film’s market premiere screening took place on May 16, 2026, at Palais E during the prestigious Marche du Film, while the poster and trailer were unveiled at the India Pavilion, drawing attention from international filmmakers, distributors, buyers, and global media.
Based on true events from Himachal Pradesh & Uttarakhand, Khoonta is an authentic and emotional cinematic journey exploring love, loss, and life deeply rooted in the traditions and spiritual beliefs of the Himalayan region. The film beautifully portrays the culture of Himachal & Uttarakhand, the devotion to Mahasu Maharaj, and the struggles of villagers living in harmony with nature.

The journey of Khoonta itself is as inspiring as its story. Writer and director , a passionate filmmaker from a small town in Himachal Pradesh, dreamed of bringing the untouched authenticity of her homeland to Indian cinema. Starting the project with only a few friends and limited resources, she faced months of struggle and rejection while seeking support for the film.
 
Everything changed when internationally acclaimed filmmaker came across the project. Deeply moved by the vision and cultural depth of the story, Mukesh Modi personally visited Himachal Pradesh before committing his support. After witnessing the region’s traditions and landscapes firsthand, he pledged not only financial backing but also complete production resources to help bring Khoonta to life.
 
Today, because of that collaboration, Khoonta has reached a global platform and screened at the biggest film festival in the world, making Himachal Pradesh proud on the international stage.

The film features performances by Anu Sharma, Kartik Rao, Rishan, Manuj Walia, Ishan Azad, Prerna Thakur, Ashu Ghanshyam, Shubham Sethi, Jawahar Kaul, Varun Kant, Ravinder, and many others. The direction team includes H.O.P. Vijay Chand Thakur, Pranay Koli, director team Abhijeet Bhatnagar, Deep Singh, Ankit Keni, Pooja and creative director Ritika Singh Kanwer, art director Yashika Kalra, while costume design has been led by Suman Sharm and Ashu Ghanshyam. Singer Natti star Ajay Chauhan, Kuldip Chandel and Rahul Azad took the film to another level with their mesmerized voice
