Chandigarh: Senior Punjab Congress leader and former MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu resigned from the Indian National Congress on Saturday, alleging that the party has stopped listening to hardworking and capable leaders, with key decisions being driven by personal interests rather than merit.
Her resignation comes a month after she was suspended by the Congress following her controversial remark that “the one who gives a suitcase of Rs 500 crore becomes the Chief Minister”, a statement that triggered political uproar within the party.

After quitting, Navjot Kaur Sidhu launched a scathing attack on Punjab Congress President Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, calling him “the most terrible, incompetent and corrupt state president so far.” She accused him of having “sold the party for petty gains” and of weakening the organisation from within.
Sidhu also flagged deep factionalism within the Punjab Congress, claiming that at least five leaders are vying for the chief ministerial post. She warned that this intense infighting would block any political comeback for her husband, former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, unless the party officially declares him as its chief ministerial face.
Highlighting her husband’s emotional connection with the party, she said that Navjot Singh Sidhu remains deeply attached to the Congress and its leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, but internal rivalries make it unlikely for him to be given any meaningful role.
Navjot Kaur Sidhu’s exit is being seen as another major blow to the Congress in Punjab, further exposing internal divisions at a time when the party is struggling to regain political ground in the state.
