US - An American Airlines flight collided midair with a Black Hawk helicopter near Washington, D.C., late Wednesday (local US time). The crash occurred when the plane was landing at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The helicopter, which collided with the passenger jet, was operated by the Army. Both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and American Airlines confirmed the news about the crash.
There were 60 passengers and four crew members on board the American Airlines aircraft.
Meanwhile, the US Army said three soldiers aboard the military helicopter were involved in the crash.
While reports suggest 18 bodies have been found, there has been no confirmation on casualty so far.
US President Donald Trump issued a statement regarding the regional jet and military helicopter crash in Washington DC late Wednesday.
He said in a statement, “I have been fully briefed on the terrible accident which just took place at Reagan National Airport."
“May god bless their souls. Thank you for the incredible work our first responders are doing.
I am monitoring the situation and will provide more details as they arise," Trump said.
In another statement posted on Truth Social, Donald Trump wrote that the airplane was on a perfect and routine line of approach to the airport, and that the helicopter was going straight at the airplane for an extended period of time.
