US - Donald Trump’s second presidential inauguration on January 20, 2025, was filled with rhetoric and focused on his achievements. His speech framed his election as a mandate to undo what he called “betrayals” and restore America’s greatness. He also suggested that surviving assassination attempts was a sign from God to carry out his mission. Trump celebrated his narrow victories, despite a tight Electoral College win, and claimed broad support. He also attacked political rivals, including former Republicans Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger.

At the inauguration, the front row was filled with billionaires like Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jeff Bezos, signaling a closer relationship between Trump and the wealthy elite.

On foreign policy, Trump stuck to his zero-sum approach, treating international relations as a competition where there must be a winner and a loser. He also brought up old territorial claims, like wanting to “take back” the Panama Canal, and suggested tensions with US allies.

On domestic issues, Trump focused on tightening border security and reaffirmed his stance on gender, promising an executive order to recognise only two genders. He also promised to change Mount McKinley’s name back to Denali, reflecting his strong nationalist stance.

Trump’s moves, particularly his attempt to end birthright citizenship, are already facing legal challenges and could lead to major constitutional issues. His claim to fulfill Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream of racial equality was also criticised.
