New Delhi - Fresh violence broke out near Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Wednesday night during the ongoing protest led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), leaving several police personnel, including two Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), and a number of protesters injured. The unrest also prompted the temporary closure of 16 Delhi Metro stations amid heightened security concerns.
According to Delhi Police, clashes erupted after demonstrators demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan allegedly engaged in stone-pelting during the protest. Security personnel responded with baton charges and tear gas to disperse the crowd as tensions escalated.
Police said ACP Jai Prakash sustained a serious head injury after being struck by a stone while deployed at Jantar Mantar around 4:30 pm. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
