New Delhi : President Droupadi Murmu conferred Padma Awards on the second batch of recipients during the Civil Investiture Ceremony-II held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other dignitaries.
Among the notable awardees from the entertainment industry, Malayalam cinema legend Mammootty and veteran playback singer Alka Yagnik were honoured with the Padma Bhushan, while actor R. Madhavan received the Padma Shri.
Mammootty was recognised for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema. Accompanied by his family, including wife Sulfath Kutty and actor-son Dulquer Salmaan, the celebrated actor received one of the country’s highest civilian honours. With a career spanning over four decades and more than 400 films, Mammootty is widely regarded as one of India’s finest actors and is a three-time National Film Award winner.
Veteran singer Alka Yagnik was also conferred the Padma Bhushan for her remarkable contribution to Indian music. Despite recent hearing-related health challenges, the singer attended the ceremony and received the honour from the President. Her illustrious career of more than 40 years includes several iconic songs that remain popular across generations.
Actor and filmmaker R. Madhavan was among the Padma Shri recipients. After receiving the award, he described it as a responsibility and pledged to uphold the values it represents. Madhavan has earned acclaim across Tamil, Hindi and Telugu cinema, while his directorial debut, “Rocketry: The Nambi Effect,” won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film.
Other recipients included Telugu actor Rajendra Prasad and renowned classical singer and academician Mangala Kapoor. The Padma Awards recognise exceptional achievements in fields such as art, literature, education, science, sports, public affairs and social service.
