X Back After Outage

Social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) faced issues in India and other parts of the world. Many users were unable to refresh feeds, access the app or the website. X showcased loading errors with the “Something went wrong” message on the screen. According to Downdetector, a website that tracks outages and technical issues, the Musk-owned platform was down from 8:17 PM Indian Standard Time (IST) as several users reported an outage. X’s outage was at its peak at 8:27 PM IST, as 4,489 users reported the issue on Downdetector. Eventually, the issue was resolved by 9:12 PM, as only 725 users reported that X was down. Currently, the social media platform is working normally.

What was the reason for the outage?
The exact reason for the outage remains unclear, and X has not provided an official explanation for the issue. It is worth noting that a similar incident took place earlier in March 2025, when Elon Musk attributed the disruption to a massive cyberattack.

What is X?
X is a popular social media platform that allows users to share short ot long-format text, images, and videos (up to 3 hours long for premium users). The platform allows users to like, repost, and reply to others’ content. People can send private encrypted messages, including voice and video calls, to individuals or groups. The social media platform allows users to stay updated on breaking news, sports, entertainment, and more in a personalised format. With the help of Community Notes, X users can view crowdsourced context on posts, allowing information verification and identifying potential misinformation.

X is currently owned by Elon Musk, under his xAI company, which was acquired in October 2022. The platform was renamed from Twitter to X in 2023. X features an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered assistant, Grok AI, which was developed by xAI. The AI assistant is designed to be a witty, “truth-seeking” chatbot, which is directly integrated into the platform.
