Hindus celebrate the birth anniversary of Ganesha at noontime of the 4th tithi (day) in the first fortnight of lunar month Bhadrapada in Vikram samvat 2083 per astronomical positions in scientific Hindu panchang calendar. Lest we forget, it is celebrated every month thereafter too as remover of obstacles.
The unique devotee owned Irvine Hindu Mandir, south of Los Angeles, also celebrated with traditional rituals, chanting of Vedic mantras, devotional songs. This time the five feet high custom built Ganesha murti (icon) had no pot belly or popular nutritious tasty laddus, but displayed a model of a missile power as deterrent.
Why Ganesha is remembered?
Stories, metaphors, artifacts, visuals, legends, occasional miracles and myths convey beneficial messages that are easy to remember over millennia. So ancient seers and sages created the character of Ganesha and whole divine family.

So what’s this word “Khoonta”?
It is a popular practical word in Hindi language. Depending on the context, it could mean anchor, strong stable marker, holding post, rooted in, tied to for safe secure position. Example: a boat anchored in dock in harbor or a small domestic animal tied to a post. Do you recall the popular folklore where child Krishna was tied to a post in the home by his loving mother Yashoda out of affection, care and concern to prevent wandering. It is akin to the “time out” prescribed by mothers all over the world.
So Ganesha is our foundation, anchor, we are rooted and tied to it. Select and embrace the right friend. Feel the energy for yourself. Empower life with courage, clarity, conviction and confidence.
