In a joint operation conducted by US Central Command (CENTCOM) forces and Iraqi Intelligence and Security Forces, one of the top leaders of ISIS, Abdallah Makki Muslih al-Rifai, alias Abu Khadijah
, has been killed. Abu Khadijah was the second-in-command of the ICC and was responsible for operations around the world. Meanwhile, Centcom has informed that Abu Khadijah and another ISIS operative were killed in this air strike carried out earlier this week.
Following the airstrike, CENTCOM and the Iraqi military took control of the area and identified Abu Khadija through DNA matching.
Following the strike, CENTCOM and Iraqi forces arrived at the strike site and found both ISIS terrorists dead. Both terrorists were wearing unexploded suicide vests and were armed with multiple weapons, the US military said in a statement.
General Michael Eric Kurilla, commander of US Central Command, while explaining the significance of the airstrike, said that Abu Khadija was the most important ISIS member in the global ISIS organization. We will continue to eliminate terrorists and dismantle organizations that threaten our homeland and America, our allies and partners in the region and beyond.
US President Donald Trump announced that the ISIS leader was killed in Iraq with the help of Iraqi and Kurdish forces. Meanwhile, the US has declared war on the terrorist organization and this airstrike was carried out as part of this, which has dealt a major blow to ISIS.
Abu Khadija held the highly regarded position of 'Emir of ISIS' within the terrorist organization. He was responsible for the organization's worldwide operations, logistics and financial planning.
CENTCOM said in a statement that Abu Khadija, the "emir of ISIS," held the highest position in the organization, overseeing global operations, logistics, and planning. He also handled a large portion of the organization's global finances.
Abu Khadija was considered one of the most dangerous terrorists active in Iraq and internationally. His important role in the ISIS leadership ranks had made him a prominent figure. Due to his prestige within the organization, there was talk that he was being considered as the 'caliph', or global leader of ISIS.
