On Friday (February 22), Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Vicky Kaushal's film, which is based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. He discussed how the movie is currently gaining widespread attention nationwide and the importance of Chhaava. During his address at the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in New Delhi, PM Modi also took a moment to commend Maharashtra and Mumbai for their immense contributions to the film industry.
 
He said, "Ye Maharashtra aur Mumbai hi hai jisne Marathi filmon ke saath-saath, Hindi cinema ko ye unchai di hai. Aur in dino toh, Chhaava ki dhoom machi hui hai. (It is Maharashtra and Mumbai that have elevated Hindi cinema along with Marathi films. And these days, Chhaava is making waves.)" "Sambhaji Maharaj ke shaurya se, iss roop mein parichay, Shivaji Sawant ke Marathi upanyas ne hi karaya hai." According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the movie crossed the Rs 200 crore mark on Thursday. On Wednesday alone, the film collected over Rs 30 crore, nearly matching its opening numbers from Valentine's Day. Maharashtra has proven to be the strongest market for the film, but it has also seen an increase in audiences in Rajasthan and West Bengal during the week. Chhaava is a period drama that tells the inspiring story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, with Vicky Kaushal playing the lead role of the Maratha ruler. The film also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna in important roles.
