In a letter sent to the parliamentary panel, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said that there is growing concern over the misuse of the constitutional right to freedom of expression to display obscene and violent content on digital platforms. It also said that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is examining the need for a new legal framework to regulate such content in the light of the existing statutory provisions and complaints of obscenity and violence being shown on digital platforms.

Meanwhile, during the hearing in the Supreme Court, the Supreme Court had given Ranveer Allahabadia strict words. While on the one hand he was given protection from arrest, on the other hand the court had taken a dig at Ranveer for his objectionable statement. “In the name of freedom of expression, no one has been given a license to speak against the norms of society. If this is not obscenity, what is it? Your words will make parents and sisters feel ashamed,” the court had said about Ranveer Allahabadia’s objectionable statement.
